Brake Repair at Dale Howard Waverly

Brakes are the most important feature of your car, keeping you and those around you safe. Even something “small” can signal a problem, so don’t ignore it and schedule service with Dale Howard Waverly.

Why Brake Repair is Important

In order to avoid being a danger to yourself and others, your vehicle’s brakes must be able to stop your car at a moment’s notice. Brakes that squeak or take too long to respond can be signs of a problem and it’s important to take care of it before it becomes worse (and more expensive). Regular maintenance can keep your brakes functioning for longer, which means fewer trips to the mechanic and less money out of your pocket.

When You Should Get Brake Repair

There are different components to your brakes and these will need to be replaced at regular intervals to maintain performance. Brake pads should be replaced every 25,000-65,000 miles and rotors should be replaced every 30,000-70,000 miles. This varies depending on the vehicle you drive, how often you drive, and the environment you typically drive in. The more often you step on your brakes, the sooner they’ll need to be replaced. Some signs that it’s time to fix them include squeaking or grinding sounds, slow stopping response, a vibrating steering wheel, fluid leakage, and the need to press the brakes hard in order to come to a full stop.

The Brake Repair Process

Step 1

Our certified technicians will listen to your concerns and inspect your vehicle, including the brake fluid level; if it’s full, they’ll remove some to avoid spillage.

Step 2

Next, they’ll remove the wheel in order to get to the brake pads and rotors. They’ll also remove the bolts and the caliper..

Step 3

Then, they will inspect the pads for uneven wear and remove them and the rotor.

Step 4

Next, our technicians will remove any rust and debris from the rotor mounting surface, then move on to clean and install the new rotor, brake hardware, and brake pads.

Step 5

Next, they’ll inspect the brake caliper and piston for any brake fluid seepage and then install the caliper.

Step 6

Before returning your vehicle, they’ll check the brake fluid reservoir, top it off if needed, pump the brakes to make sure everything’s working correctly, and reinstall the wheel.

Cost of Brake Repair

Brake repair can cost anywhere between $300 and $800 depending on the car you drive and which parts need replacing. Check our service department for seasonal discounts on brake maintenance and other deals.

Questions to Ask Your Service Technician

  • Did you notice any fluid leaks or mechanical problems?
  • How can I extend the life of my brakes?

Signs of a Quality Brake Repair

There should be no squeaking, grinding, or other unusual noises when operating your vehicle. Your new brakes may be a little sensitive at first but they shouldn’t be too fast or slow to respond when in use. There shouldn’t be any fluid leaks either. If you notice any of these signs, schedule service immediately.

Caring for Your Vehicle After Brake Repair

Step on your new brakes lightly for a while. Don’t press too hard and try to avoid sudden stops or unnecessary tapping. Following these guidelines can also extend the life of your brakes.
